TC Tolbert is a genderqueer, feminist poet and teacher committed to social justice. S/he believes in working across communities – building bridges wherever possible. TC earned his MFA in Poetry from UA in 2005 and currently teaches Composition at The University of Arizona and Pima Community College. S/he is also the Assistant Director of Casa Libre en la Solana. S/he spends his summers leading wilderness trips for Outward Bound.

TC is co-editor of the forthcoming Troubling the Line: Trans and Genderqueer Poetry & Poetics (Nightboat Books, March 2013) the first anthology of its kind. The book will feature the work of 55 trans and genderqueer poets as well as a poetic statement by each author describing the relationship between the author’s experience of the body and their experience of writing poetry. www.transanthology.com

TC is the creator and director of Made for Flight, a youth empowerment project that utilizes creative writing and kite building to create a living memorial commemorating transgender people who were murdered in the previous year. www.madeforflight.com

TC is a member of Movement Salon, a compositional improvisation group in Tucson, and is the Interview Curator for Trickhouse, an online multi-genre publication. TC is the Lead Artist for Literature in Unexpected Places at Marana High School. S/he is also a collective member of Read Between the Bars, a books-to-prisoners program.

TC was awarded the Arizona Commission on the Arts Individual Artist Award in 2012 and a residency at Byrdcliffe. S/he has two chapbooks, spirare (Belladonna 2012) and territories of folding (Kore Press 2011). His work won the Arizona Statewide Poetry Competition in 2010, chosen by Linda Russo. TC’s first full length collection, Gephyromania, was a finalist for the Sawtooth Poetry Prize in 2009, 2010, and 2011 and is forthcoming from Ahsahta Press. His poems can be found in Volt, The Volta, The Pinch, Drunken Boat, Shampoo, A Trunk of Delirium, jubilat, and EOAGH.
